On Saturday night there was simply no stopping Daniel Wells.

Like his teammate Andrew Swallow a week earlier, the 26 year-old was absolutely dominant in the first term, racking up an impressive 15 disposals and setting up several forward thrusts.

His early hard running didn't stop him from having a huge impact after quarter-time either, as he finished the match with 33 possessions and seven marks.

Even more pleasing were the defensive aspects of his game. Wells laid eight tackles, his career best tally, to pile persistent pressure on his opponents with and without the footy in his hands.

Both Brad Scott and Gold Coast coach Guy McKenna gave Wells the maximum votes in the AFL Coaches Association Player of the Year.

In his 312th game, Brent Harvey was recognised as second-best afield with four goals to go with his 29 possessions.

Aaron Edwards' 11 marks and five goals was another strong performer in the 59-point win, while Liam Anthony and Drew Petrie were among the votes as well.
