Geelong draftee Billie Smedts is likely to miss the rest of the 2011 season after having surgery on his hip.

“Billie has required some hip surgery,” Geelong general manager of football Neil Balme told CATS TV.

“He has had back and hip issues and we believe the surgery will solve the problem, but it means he will not play the rest of the season. In the long term he will be fine, but in the short term he will miss the season.
