QUEENSLANDER Tom McArthur enters the AFL Hall of Fame after an unparalleled career spanning four decades that saw him umpire a national record 502 senior games.

McNamara turned his hand to umpiring after a car accident cut short his playing career in 1959. By the time he retired in 1985 he had become one of the most decorated officials in the history of the game.

The former baker was roundly respected for his calm manner on the field and was rarely called upon to report players. He officiated in 14 QAFL Grand Finals, 10 Queensland state representative matches, is a life member of the AFL Queensland Umpires Association and has been named the state's umpire of the century.
