LUKE Hodge. Luke Ball. Chris Judd.

Three young stars who grew into champions of the game, and who will forever be associated with the 2001 AFL Draft – otherwise known as the 'Superdraft'.

Hodge, Ball and Judd were the first three players picked in November 2001, but they were only the start of that draft's storied class.

Gary Ablett jnr, Dane Swan, Sam Mitchell, Jimmy Bartel, Brian Lake, Leigh Montagna, Brian Lake, Steve Johnson and Nick Dal Santo were just some of the other young guns who went on to write some of the most dramatic and successful chapters in the game's history.

It's been 25 years since the greatest draft in AFL history took place, and Riot Content and AFL.com.au have combined to create a three-part documentary series that tells the story of the 2001 draft – plus the dramatic events that took place before the first pick was read out, and the years of drama that played out in its wake.

Superdraft: Inside the biggest off-season in history

Coming soon: A three-part documentary that goes inside the 2001 trade and draft period with Luke Hodge, Luke Ball, Grant Thomas, Paul Connors, Dermott Brereton, Chris Connolly and more

Superdraft features more than a dozen interviews with key figures of the time, including Luke Hodge, Luke Ball, player manager Paul Connors, St Kilda director and coach Grant Thomas, Fremantle CEO Cameron Schwab and his senior coach Chris Connolly, Hawthorn coach Peter Schwab, recruiter John Turnbull and Hawks football director Dermott Brereton.

The documentary delves into how key decisions from players, coaches, recruiters, board members and agents alike shaped club fortunes for the next two decades, including Fremantle's fateful decision to trade the most prized asset in the draft – the No.1 pick.

Superdraft will launch on Monday, November 16, just days out from the 2026 Telstra AFL Draft when dozens of young footballers will get their chance to follow in the footsteps of the game's greatest players.

Be among the first to watch the debut episode of Superdraft at our launch event on Monday, November 16 at Marvel Stadium. Cal Twomey and Riley Beveridge will bring a special live episode of Gettable to the stage and Nat Edwards will also hosts a live Q&A with special guests from Superdraft.
