North Melbourne coach Brad Scott is hit with plenty of questions about football, but on Thursday he received one like no other.

Dane Stanley, a five year-old who suffers from cerebral palsy, paid a special visit to the club after two months in the Royal Children's Hospital and had Scott stumped asking, "Why would anyone bring an elephant to the football?".

A little tongue tied at first, Scott eventually came to the conclusion Stanley was referring to an iconic moment back in 1979 when an elephant broke free from its handler during some half-time entertainment and charged across the ground at Arden Street with a small girl on its back.

Stanley’s fascination was sparked by a photo he'd seen in the club's Huddle classroom.

During his stay at Aegis Park, he watched his beloved Kangaroos train and had a unique experience when he was welcomed into the gym. He also spent time with chairman James Brayshaw and even shared a joke with the playing group.

Stanley still has a couple of weeks before he'll be able to return home from hospital but will no doubt share his memories for many years to come.

The North Melbourne Football Club would like to wish Dane and his family well during his recovery from surgery.
