GOLD Coast whiz-kid Izak Rankine will play just his second NEAFL game of the season on Saturday after overcoming a hip injury.

He will run out for the Suns against the Swans at Sydney's Tramway Oval.

Rankine was taken with the third pick in last year's NAB AFL Draft and has been dogged by injuries in 2019.

He played both JLT Community Series matches, but suffered a hamstring injury against the Swans that kept him out for almost four months.

The South Australian eventually returned through the NEAFL in early July and suffered a hip problem in his first match.

Gold Coast football manager Jon Haines said there were no expectations on Rankine to perform well.

"Izak is excited as are all of his teammates," Haines said.

"He has demonstrated an impressive level of diligence throughout his first year at the club and while it has been frustrating at times, we have no doubt the experience is going to hold him in great stead going into 2020 and beyond."
