DREAM Team coach Mark Williams is thrilled.
Not just with his star-studded team, but with the support he's getting from the other coaches around the league.
Leigh Matthews has been doing what he can – so far unsuccessfully – to keep star centre half-forward and Victorian captain Jonathan Brown out of this weekend's Hall of Fame tribute game, but Williams said he'd had no calls.
"I think it's great to acknowledge the other 15 coaches – they've been fantastic in regard to supporting this," Williams said. "No-one's rung me – not one coach – to say 'listen, I don't reckon he should be playing'.
"The fact of the matter is they understand how vital it is for the players to play, and what a great thing it is for the game and what a great thing it is for the supporters."
Not surprisingly, Williams – never short of a superlative – was talking up his forward line, with its main weapons of Lance Franklin, Cameron Mooney, Matthew Pavlich and Matthew Richardson, with whom he was sharing the media conference table.
"I'm delighted to announce that these four are certainly in the starting 25 for our team," he said. "I don't think the AFL has ever seen a star-studded line-up like this in any forward line.
"I think the guys have really jelled together terrifically well and we expect to get a great result.
"I think it'll be a delight for all the people to come and have a look at, and I'm sure that there'll be some sort of competition among the guys to see who can take the biggest mark, kick the longest goal, and lay the biggest tackle.
"Oh – you blokes don't tackle do you? You're forwards."
Richardson clearly hasn't adjusted to his new role as the world's biggest wingman, as his solution to explain away a potential loss shows.
"We've already discussed that if we don't kick goals, and we don't kick the winning score, it won't be our fault, it'll be the midfielders fault – they won't have been able to get the ball in to us cleanly and enough, so it definitely won't be our fault," he said to a chorus of approval.
