Bennell, a former Melbourne half-back, gets his first game for the club after being upgraded from the rookie list for this season, while Callum Sinclair has been named to add to his five AFL games after being promoted this week.

But Hill, who played 20 games last season for 28 goals, has missed out on the final side along with Scott Lycett and Brad Sheppard.

Defender Eric Mackenzie will play his 100th AFL game.

The Dogs have resisted the temptation to blood draftee Mitch Honeychurch, with the small midfielder named as first emergency, but will feature former Essendon forward Stewart Crameri for the first time.

Tom Young and Ayce Cordy have also been named as emergencies.

Brownlow medallist Adam Cooney will captain the team in the absence of Ryan Griffen, who won't play because of back tightness.

Robert Murphy will play his 250th game while Shaun Higgins will run out for the first time since round three last year, when he broke his left navicular bone.
