GEELONG is interested in securing former Melbourne speedster Sam Blease as a delisted free agent.

The 23-year-old was officially struck from Melbourne's list on Wednesday after six years as a Demon and AFL.com.au understands the Cats have made moves to secure him when the delisted free agency period opens on November 1.

He had told the club he was seeking fresh opportunities during his exit interview and Melbourne had agreed to assist him reach another club.

Blease was a first round selection (No.17 overall) as a 17-year-old in the 2008 NAB AFL Draft but did not make his debut until round 15, 2011 after breaking his ankle in a schoolyard accident in 2009.

He played just 33 games but displayed flashes of brilliance at times.

Blease looked to have cemented a spot when he played 16 games in 2012 kicking 19 goals and earning his second Rising Star nomination.

However an ankle injury interrupted his 2013 and he attracted interest from Hawthorn in the 2013 trade period but stuck with the Demons.

He seemed to fall out of favour with Paul Roos, playing just two games at the end of 2014 despite impressing in the VFL.

Blease told Trade Radio that he was working hard to get another chance and said he had been working with high performance running coach Adam Larcom in the past month.

"Obviously the time at Melbourne has been a little bit inconsistent, and I've taken this opportunity over this break to work on some things…endurance being one of those," Blease said.

"I think it's put me in good stead for another opportunity.

"This year has been a little bit different to previous years where I've sort of felt that this was my most consistent VFL season."

The Cats traded speedster Travis Varcoe to Collingwood last week and Blease could add some zip to the Geelong line-up.

Players cut loose by their clubs have the chance to find new homes when the delisted fee agent period commences on Saturday, November 1.
