The Eagles’ last win on the road came against Melbourne in round eight, but the side’s last two trips interstate have produced their worst losses this season, to Collingwood and Richmond.
A loss to the Bombers on Saturday night would equal the club’s longest losing streak of eight matches, set in 2001, and Worsfold said the challenge for his players was to maintain the effort produced last week.
“We’re looking for consistency in their efforts,” Worsfold said from Subiaco Oval on Wednesday morning.
“To become a very good side, one they need to be more skillful (and) make better decisions. They also need to play with the intensity at the appropriate level every week.
“That’s the other challenge for them, not to have drop offs: just backing up a good performance.”
West Coast should be boosted by the return of rebounding defender Shannon Hurn this week, with Worsfold also hopeful Beau Waters (corked hamstring) will be available after training lightly on Wednesday morning.
“He’s a chance of playing,” he said. “The first three or four days after corks are just [about] not letting it re-bleed. You take it pretty easy.
“It’s going to be about functionality; if he feels he can play then he’ll be putting his hand up to play.”
Worsfold said Hurn needed to get through Wednesday’s main session after missing two matches with a calf injury, and the 22-year-old ran strongly throughout.
A host of youngsters will also be available for selection this week, with Tom Swift, Koby Stevens, Pat McGinnity and Tim Houlihan pressing their claims.
Houlihan has not played for West Coast this year after a serious foot injury in the pre-season, but he has averaged 25 possessions in six WAFL matches and is close to earning a recall, Worsfold said.
“With Tim playing good football, and the form he showed late last year, you’d say he’d make us a better team,” he said.
“The way he played last year … he just played really good intense football, he tackled well, carries the ball well, has a great running capacity and good pace.”
Worsfold said he was keen to keep Ash Smith in the side after an impressive debut, but he could not guarantee the 19-year-old’s position with Hurn likely to return.
“I thought for a debut game he performed really well,” Worsfold said. “He kicks the ball well; showed good pace.
“He made a few little mistakes, but overall we were rapt with the way he performed.
“If Shannon Hurn does come in one backman has to miss out. We’ll work through that, but we’d be very keen to keep Ash in after one game.”
