CARLTON has recalled experienced duo Jarrad Waite and Bret Thornton for Monday night's clash with St Kilda at Etihad Stadium.

Both players were dropped to the VFL after the Blues' loss to Essendon in round three.

Coach Brett Ratten conceded soon after that the club could have expected too much from Waite in his return from a knee reconstruction.

However, the 27-year-old's ability to play at both ends of the ground means a particularly important inclusion for Carlton as it looks to upset a side that has lost just one game this season.

Recruit Lachie Henderson, who has played primarily as a key forward, has been omitted while midfielder Brock McLean's hip complaint has returned.

The Saints made one change for the match, with midfielder Jason Gram overcoming his hip injury to take his place at the expense of David Armitage.
