HAWTHORN ruckman Robbie Campbell says despite his team's clash against bottom team Melbourne being cited as a foregone conclusion, the undefeated Hawks have a demon of their own to quell this weekend.

“The thing with us over the last couple of years is that we’re very competitive in games that we’re expected to lose but we sort of get a bit complacent when we play teams we’re expected to beat,” Campbell said.

“So another big challenge for us is to see how far we’ve come as a group, and make sure we go out there with the right attitude and stick to our game plan.”

The 25-year-old is also well aware that emotions will be running high at Melbourne in the wake of the retirement of captain David Neitz.

“There’s going to be a lot of emotion around the game but we’ve come up against sides who’ve had players playing milestones, like Scott Burns playing his 250th a couple of weeks ago … So we’re confident if we stick to our structures and game plan we can get over the top of them.”

And while there’s been much talk about the round 17 meeting of the Hawks’ with reigning premiers Geelong, Campbell is surprised that nobody is talking about round 10 when Hawthorn will take on the Western Bulldogs.

“I always talk pretty thoroughly with my brother and my old man about upcoming games, and we were just saying that it (the round 10 match) has been on the quiet side.

"It’s been overlooked a fair bit I reckon. People are just looking to round 17. But we’ve got a whole heap of challenges coming up well before that so we’re not even looking to that.

"It will be interesting. [The Bulldogs] are playing some good footy so it will be a good game.”
