THE WAFL will have its matches shown on Channel Seven in 2015, following the lead of the SANFL and VFL.

The ABC had televised state league games in Western Australia since 1987 but uncertainty about funding left it unable to commit to further coverage in 2015.

In 2014, SANFL broadcasts on the Seven Network averaged around 31,000 viewers compared to 16,000 the year before on the ABC.

The SANFL Grand Final, where Norwood beat Port Adelaide by four points, had an average audience of 129,000 viewers.

The VFL confirmed in November that its matches would be also be shown on Seven, ending a long-running association with the ABC.

West Australian Football Commission chief operating officer Nicholas Sautner said the league's move would allow fans to tune in on free-to-air television.

"It is extremely important that the WAFL competition is televised and the WAFC has worked very hard over the last two years to achieve certainty of statewide coverage going forward," Sautner said.

"This partnership with McDonald's and the Seven Network will continue to provide television audiences with the opportunity to watch their favourite WAFL team in action.

"The coverage will not only enhance the profile of the competition, but allow additional outcomes to be delivered to the WAFL clubs and the wider community."
