VFL Media Coordinator

Casual - 2 days p/wk

 Essendon Football Club is committed to our vision of being recognised as the most respected, inclusive and successful sporting club in the country, consistently setting the benchmark both on and off the field.  We currently have a fantastic opportunity for a VFL Media Coordinator to ‘Don the Sash’ and join our Communications Team based at our club headquarters in Melbourne Airport.

 The Opportunity

 Reporting to the Head of Communications, the VFL Media Coordinator is responsible for driving the VFL coverage across the club’s multiple digital platforms including essendonfc.com.au, Bomber TV, social media channels, club app and multiple publications. The VFL Media Coordinator will play a key role in achieving the club’s strategic communications vision. This incorporates assisting with the day-to-day handling of the club’s internal and external media requirements, producing engaging and factual content across the club’s multiple digital platforms and overseeing the growth in coverage of the club’s VFL side. The VFL Media Coordinator will have a keen interest in the sport of Australian Rules, be able to multi-task, and manage key stakeholder relationships.

 In the role you will be responsible for:

  • Writing VFL match reports and VFL news stories for the Club’s multiple digital platforms and publications
  • Interviewing and producing BomberTV content
  • Looking after the content across the VFL social media accounts
  • Facilitating media requests from broadcast partners

 What We’re Looking For

To be considered for the role, candidates must have the following essential skills and experience:

  • Tertiary qualified in Journalism/Communications or a relevant field
  • Experience managing social media platforms
  • Ability to generate original story ideas
  • Experience conducting interviews
  • Proven organisational skills and experience producing high-level written and digital communications
  • Able to work autonomously and in a team environment
  • Ability to engage with a range of people and stakeholders and build trusting relationships
  • Ability to work on every Essendon VFL match day and one additional day during the week at Club headquarters
  • A strong understanding of Australian Rules Football and the terminology used
  • Permanent Residency in Australia, or appropriate visa to work permanently

Other attributes which would give candidates the edge:

  • A background in media, journalism or public relations in a sporting environment
  • An ability to work hard in a sometimes challenging environment
  • A strong interest in technology and new media
  • Experience using Photoshop to generate images for Social Media channels and website
