On each weekday of the 2011 Toyota AFL Finals Series, Leigh Matthews will count down his 20 Moments of Greatness from the finals. Today: moment No. 9 when Michael Voss rode a bump and set up a goal in the 2002 Grand Final.

Many great Grand Final victories have been determined by an act of courage. In this case, it was the indomitable performance of Lions captain Michael Voss when he bounced up from a sweetly timed hip and shoulder from Scott Burns.

"It's basically saying to the opposition, 'You just can't hurt me'," Leigh Matthews said.

The force of the bump would have consigned many to the boundary line for the rest of the match, but Voss was able to gather himself, run 10m to accept the ball and handball inside to Simon Black, who kicked a goal.

Collingwood's hopes sank after such an indestructible display from the Lions' leader.
