Alternate jumpers

Hi Matt, as a long term follower (50+ years) and a regular MFC member - for a lot of the past 25 years - and after so many years in the doldrums, it is great to see the club at the beginning of such an exciting period, where in the next few years, Melbourne will again be the powerhouse team it has been for much of its long history.

There is however, one matter which continues to worry me - our away jumper. Melbourne is the team of the red and the blue. We sing it in our club song. We also sing, every heart beats true, for “the red & the blue”.

Being the oldest football club in the world, surely we have some privilege, to be able to, either wear a clash stripe, that is only red and blue, or be able to wear our “real” jumper at all times.

Tradition must count for something. Collingwood seem to have found a compromise - why not the Mighty Demons?

Cheers,

David Bland

Matt says: Hi David, it is now an AFL requirement, all clubs have an alternative strip or clash jumper. Melbourne’s alternative white jumper points towards its very early heritage when it was known as the ‘Invincible Whites’. Even though naturally, all Melbourne supporters are fondest of the red and blue jumper.

Debt Demolition

Hi Matt
How much was raised on Sunday? The debt now stands at...

Cheers, very proud demons supporter
Julie Linden

Matt says: A remarkable $22,025.45 was raised in 15 minutes during last Sunday’s clash against the Sydney Swans at the MCG. The debt now stands at $638k (as at last Wednesday).

Possible recruit?

G'day Matt,
Just wondering whether Chris Connolly or Barry Prendergast, or anyone who has a say in recruiting, has noticed young Steven May from the NT. Massive young boy, and possibly the answer for Melbourne's need for one more forward!

Cheers,
Tom

Matt says: Hi Tom, it’s interesting you bring up Steven May’s name, because he was officially named a Gold Coast player on Friday. May is key position Northern Territorian player, but is completing his final year at Melbourne Grammar School. He has been claimed by the Suns as one of the club’s priority zone picks.
