JARROD Witts has a simple message for his battling Gold Coast teammates – come out of your shells.

The Suns have lost 12 straight matches and hit rock bottom in the past fortnight with successive 90-point hidings at Metricon Stadium from both Richmond and Adelaide.

Ahead of Saturday's clash with Carlton – the last realistic sniff Gold Coast has of avoiding the wooden spoon – co-captain Witts said his team had to keep it simple.

"We haven't had a great couple of months, that's pretty obvious," he said.

"We can't afford to go inside ourselves now.

NINE THINGS WE LEARNED No excuses for Dockers' collapse

"The last six weeks of the season are really important ones for some individuals at the club and the team collectively, so we need to come out and help each other and come out of ourselves and take it on.

"I think you can fast forward until the end of the year, but there's still so much gold we can get out of the next six weeks that can set us up for next year."

Witts said the club had re-established its culture last pre-season and believed it had the talent necessary to climb the ladder.

He said the Suns could learn from Brisbane, which had strong back-ends to its past two seasons it then used as a springboard for the following year.

"We don’t want two weeks to define our season.

"The 14 games before that we didn’t turn up in some quarters and had parts of the game we were off, but if you were coming to watch us you knew what you were going to get.

"You were going to see a contested team trying to play the ball in their front half and I think that was pretty evident in the early and middle parts of the season.

"We have gone away from it in the last two weeks and it’s about getting it back on track.

"Everyone in the group has a responsibility to get themselves in a good headspace to turn up and train really hard for the next six weeks and change the narrative that it's been the last two weeks."
