HAWTHORN could be bolstered by three key inclusions for Friday night's clash with Carlton at the MCG but has lost emerging young gun Billy Hartung to an elbow injury.

Defender Ben Stratton (adductor) and ruckmen David Hale (corked quad) and Ben McEvoy (corked hamstring) all missed the Hawks' win over West Coast on Saturday, but are a chance to return to the side if they prove their fitness during Thursday's main training session.

"All three are a decent chance," football operations manager Chris Fagan told the Hawks website on Monday.

"McEvoy's probably the strongest at this point in time but we won't know until Thursday."

Fagan also dispelled speculation that Cyril Rioli was subbed out of Saturday's game with a knee injury and confirmed he would be 100 per cent fit to face the Blues.

"A few people were worried about a little ice pack he had on his knee," Fagan said.

"But that was just a bruise from a knock and he's come out of the game in great condition.

"The plan was always to play Cyril for three quarters if we could and it worked out that way for us so he came off early in the last quarter."

In more good news for the Hawks, star midfielder Sam Mitchell is on target to return ahead of schedule from a hamstring injury after resuming running three weeks ago.

The club expects him to return in round 15 for the Hawks clash against Gold Coast at Aurora Stadium.

"He's had a pretty strong running program for the last three weeks and has been back running at somewhere near full pace," Fagan said.

"We're really pleased with the progress he's made and he's on track to return in around three weeks."

Meanwhile it wasn't good news for young Hawk Billy Hartung, who took off the green vest on Saturday to replace Rioli.

The 19-year-old hyperextended his elbow in a tackle during the final term and will be sidelined for the next four to six weeks.

"Billy caught his elbow in an awkward position," Fagan said.

"He's damaged the medial ligament in his elbow so will miss somewhere between four and six weeks."

Fagan also revealed that pacy midfielder Jed Anderson will miss the remainder of the season after having surgery on his injured shoulder two weeks ago.

"At this point in time with the damage that was there, he won't be right to play again this year," he said.

"He's just got to get ready for season 2015 now which is a real pity because I think all us Hawks people, all the fans out there, have high hopes for Jed.

"We're just going to have to wait another year for him to deliver the goods."
