The teams for Round 12 of the rebel VFLW.

It doesn’t matter what competition it is, when Collingwood plays Carlton it is always on for young and old.

And the latest instalment of this 130-year-old rivalry takes place at AIA Centre on Saturday when the eighth-placed Blues attempt to keep alive their hopes of a maiden rebel VFLW finals appearance alive by upsetting the third-placed Magpies.

Both teams have lost a match-winner to the Under-23 All Stars team that will take on the AFL Academy Girls at Marvel Stadium on Sunday, with the Magpies being without livewire goalkicker Nyakoat Dojiok and the Blues to miss gun onballer Madeleine Di Cosmo.

North Melbourne is also searching for a season-saving win with the daunting task of having to knock off ladder-leader Southern Saints – and the Kangaroos also had to give up their home ground advantage, with the match having been relocated from Arden Street Oval to Wilson Storage Trevor Barker Beach Oval.

Despite losing Madisen Maguire to a broken finger, the Kangaroos have boosted their line-up with AFLW-listed players Mietta McDonald and Marguerite Purcell rushed in and Annaleise Xanthos back for her first game since Round 8.

Lucy Burke has played her last game in this stint with the Saints after winning herself an AFLW contract last week – ironically with North Melbourne – but they have regained key forward Kayla Ripari alongside Jemma Webster, Melanie Bertuna, Margaret Kershaw and Jemima Wrigley, while Dandenong Stingrays young star Jemma Ramsdale will make her debut.

The third team sitting six points out of the finals is Casey Demons, and their match is critical not just to them but also the Blues, Kangaroos and Williamstown as they host the sixth-placed reigning premier Essendon.

Swans Academy product Ella Morris makes her debut for the Demons alongside Kasey Phillips and Teagan Williams, but they have lost Bianca Woolcock to a calf injury, while Eleanor Cornish and Maddy Pearson return to the team for the Bombers.

Geelong will be without Charlotte Simpson as it tries to break out of a home ground funk that has seen it drop four of six games at Deakin University, with the key midfielder named in the U23 All-Stars team, but the Cats’ opponent Box Hill Hawks have suffered a blow of their own with Grace McRae ruled out until the finals with a knee injury.

The Hawks have handed a debut to Vermont’s Erin Woodford, while fellow youngster Chloe Bailey and veteran pair Monique Trusler and Jade Wise also come in.

Williamstown chases its seventh victory in nine weeks against Western Bulldogs at DSV Stadium, with Phoebe Chisholm and Danika Di Santo coming in for injured pair Scarlett Dunell and Brittney Gray.

The Bulldogs have received a double blow with in-form midfielders Dom Carbone (U23 All-Stars) and Sarah Skinner (suspension) to both miss Saturday morning’s game, replaced by Imahra Cameron and Erica Greet.

Darebin regains Emma Mackay from suspension for its game against Port Melbourne at La Trobe University on Sunday, but the Falcons have lost captain Steph Simpson to a knee problem, Simone Ruedin to a season-ending hand injury and Sabine Cowley Du Parquet to a thumb issue.

The Borough has recalled Federica Frew and Eliza Morrison and named second-gamer Tilly Mottram and a veteran debutant in Bendigo Thunder’s Britney Mueck.

They do, however, lose four key players to injury, with Courteney Bromage suffering whiplash and Lisa Davie a two-week shoulder injury, while they hope Kaitlyn O’Keefe and Laura Wright will only miss one week with hamstring and foot problems respectively.

All matches in the 2023 Smithy’s VFL and rebel VFLW seasons will be live streamed free via the AFL website and AFL Live Official App.

Casey Radio 97.7FM will be taking the Williamstown vs Western Bulldogs game as part of their VFLW/VFL double-header coverage at DSV Stadium.
