Today, the Port Adelaide Football Club and the Adelaide Thunderbirds strengthened their partnership by launching this weekend’s South Australian Super Sporting Sunday.

The Power’s Chad Cornes and Brendon Lade tried their luck shooting goals with a netball while the Thunderbirds’ British import Geva Mentor got a taste of Australian rules football.

The Power, proud major sponsor of the Thunderbirds, is encouraging all sports fans to get along to both great games on Sunday, starting with the Thunderbirds taking on Canterbury at 1pm at ETSA Park, before the Power tackle the Blues at AAMI Stadium from 4.10pm.

The Power sits six points outside the top 8 while the Thunderbirds are just percentage out of the top 4, making both games vitally important to the teams’ finals aspirations.

Sponsoring the Power’s home game is Port Adelaide’s premier and female partner SGIC, whose logo can also be seen on the Thunderbirds teal uniforms.

The round 11 clash is themed Netball/Girl Power, highlighted by activities at the Planet Teal Zone. Girl Power is a program launched last year aimed at encouraging female secondary school students to get involved in football, including competitive football.

Girls from 16 secondary schools participating in Girl Power have been invited to Sunday’s game at AAMI Stadium. In addition to seeing the Power take on Carlton, they will also be able to see the NAB AFL Under 18 curtain raiser, where young star and potential number one draft pick at the 2008 NAB AFL National Draft Nicholas Natinui will take to the field.
