West Coast Eagles coach John Worsfold has acknowledged the good form of certain squad members playing in the WAFL and hasn’t ruled any of them out to be a chance at the selection table throughout the season.
While team stability has been singled out as a contributing factor for the Eagles’ positive start to the 2011 season, players such as Tom Swift, Jacob Brennan and Scott Lycett have repeatedly put in outstanding performances for their respective WAFL sides and continue their claims for an AFL berth.
“They're all a chance to play,” says Worsfold.
“I don't think we've ever had a squad where we've said, 'that kid's not going to play till next year.’
“They're all up for selection and they all want to play.”
Worsfold explained that every debutant-in-waiting had high expectations for their first season at an AFL club.
“They all set goals of trying to break into the side in their first season.”
Particular mention had been made about new recruit Scott Lycett and his performances for WAFL side Peel Thunder, with many pundits wondering if he was tracking ahead of schedule with his development.
“Scott's going really well,” Worsfold said.
“His development's been great and we're really pleased with how he's going. He may play this year. As may Jacob Brennan.
“If his form warrants selection, he'll be in.”
West Coast takes on this season’s debutants the Gold Coast Suns this Saturday at Patersons Stadium.
