FOLLOWING the success of the Foundation Leaders event which raised more than $1 million, the Port Adelaide Football Club has been overwhelmed by interest from members and supporters wanting to help their Club further reduce its debt.
Now they have that opportunity with the launch of Foundation Believers and Foundation Supporters, the next phase of the Back in Black debt reduction strategy.
Launch the Back In Black Debt Reduction Campaign
The campaign is aimed at raising money through donations from our many loyal followers. In turn, each and every one of those donors will take a special place in their club’s history as it works towards its next Premierships in the AFL and the SANFL.
The money raised will help the Port Adelaide Football Club continue to cut its $3 million core debt.
Port Adelaide Football Club President Brett Duncanson said: “The Port Adelaide Football Club has achieved unrivalled success, but those past glories don’t guarantee future success.”
“To help, we are asking our supporters - who have enjoyed all those highs - to give what they can and become part of our foundation for the future.
“Every dollar will be spent reducing our debt and cutting our interest burden, freeing up money to be spent in pursuit of our next Premierships.”
Mr Duncanson said the supporters had a unique opportunity to help accelerate their club’s on-field redevelopment phase.
“This is our supporters’ opportunity to be a major part of that journey. Coach Matthew Primus and his assistants are working with an exciting group of players and together they form the basis of what will be Port Adelaide’s next successful era.
“But success doesn’t come without enormous investment. The facts tell us that AFL Premierships are won by the clubs that have the most to spend in their Football Departments.”
Power Coach Matthew Primus said: “The harsh reality is that right now our debt position means that we cannot deliver all of the critical football resources that our leading AFL rivals enjoy.
“We are ranked in the bottom quartile of the league for football department expenditure, spending at least $1.5m less than the AFL average and more than $4m less than 2010 premier Collingwood.”
Magpies Coach Tony Bamford said supporters had shown a willingness to help financially in the past, and he hoped they would do so again to assist the development of both teams and their pursuit of more success.
“Together with our supporters we’ve had remarkable success over a very long time. And together we can achieve even more. People can give whatever they can afford. But for as little as what it costs to buy a coffee each week, collectively our supporters can make a massive difference,” Tony said.
The Port Adelaide Football Club has set up a Back In Black page on its website for supporters to make their donations, which can be one-off payments or spread over 12 months.
- who donate more than $1000 will become FOUNDATION BELIEVERS. They will receive an invitation to an exclusive Inner Sanctum event at Alberton Oval, involving coaches and players. They will receive a certificate of appreciation and acknowledgement on the Club website and AAMI Stadium Super Screen during the Round 20 clash against Collingwood.
- Those who donate up to $1000 will become FOUNDATION SUPPORTERS. They will receive a certificate of appreciation and acknowledgement on the Club website.
Mr Duncanson said: “We will be forever grateful for every dollar we receive. Like our Foundation Leaders, our Foundation Believers and Supporters will be able to share the pride when the Port Adelaide Football Club wins those next Premierships.”
