All the teams for Round 11 in the rebel VFLW.
AFLW premiership player Sarah Perkins will make her long-awaited debut for new club Essendon when she returns from injury for the Bombers’ rebel VFLW match of the round against milestone club Box Hill Hawks at Windy Hill on Saturday.
Adelaide flag winner Perkins, 30, who joined the Bombers in the off-season after being delisted by Hawthorn, has been out with a foot injury but is finally ready to return a month out from the finals.
Perkins needs just four majors to kick her 100th goal in the competition – a feat previously achieved only by Moana Hope (126), Katie Brennan (125) and Jasmine Garner (104), with Darcy Vescio (99) the only other player ahead of her.
Last year’s Carlton captain Christina Bernardi will also don the sash for the first time to add experience to an Essendon team trying to stay in touch with the runaway top three.
The Hawks, who were unstoppable in thrashing Carlton last week but have not beaten the Bombers in seven attempts dating back to 2019, have turned to returning goalkicker Rosie Dillon and a pair of Eastern Ranges debutants in Blackburn tall forward Georgie Brisbane and Lysterfield small Stasia Stevenson to try to break the drought.
Box Hill celebrates its 100th VFLW appearance in the clash, holding an impressive 56-39-4 record across its history.
Port Melbourne has named Richmond AFLW player Rebecca Miller for its 150th birthday celebration match against arch-rival Williamstown at ETU Stadium on Sunday.
Miller has played 39 AFLW matches for the Tigers in the past five seasons and last lined up for the Borough in 2021, but will play in place of Gabby Seymour.
Borough skipper Olivia Barton has succumbed to an ankle injury, leaving Lisa Davie the honour of wearing the skipper’s No.150 guernsey on this special day for the club.
Kate Adams, Bella Stutt and Meg Buchanan also return for Port, with the high-flying Seagulls unchanged as they try to stretch their undefeated run which dates back to Round 4.
Former AFLW player Jayde van Dyk is the big-name inclusion as Collingwood named yet another four debutants among eight changes for its clash with Southern Saints at the AIA Centre on Sunday.
van Dyk, 28, who played 30 AFLW games for Carlton and St Kilda since being recruited from Box Hill (24 VFLW games in 2018-19), has lined up just once at this level in five years – for the Saints in 2021.
She will be joined in the Magpies’ line-up by Oak Park’s Mia Briedis, who played four time for Port Melbourne in 2022, and first-gamer Alessia Dunn (Blackburn) and Melissa Maizels (Kew) as the six debutants from last week head back to the Oakleigh Chargers and Geelong Amateur (Danielle Sgarbi).
The Saints have been boosted by the returns of Georgia Ricardo, Tessa Boyd and Abbey Tregellis as they try to break a season-ruining eight-match losing streak.
North Melbourne has gained a couple of important players for its danger match against the reborn Darebin in the second of the Avalon Airport Oval double header matches.
Jen Guy is back from a hip injury and Brooke Slaney has overcome a wrist problem, while Aisling Tupper will play her first VFLW game since lining up in 19 games for Melbourne University in 2018-19 as Elisha King goes out with a minor hamstring issue.
The Falcons also have a key inclusion as they chase four straight wins, with co-captain Steph Simpson returning from a broken nose in place of running defender Emma Mackay.
Geelong has selected Gabby Deller for her first game since 2019 as it tries to save its season against the in-form Western Bulldogs at Avalon Airport Oval in Saturday’s double header.
Deller played in Bond University’s QAFLW flag last year but has returned home and fought her way in with good form for Thomson, alongside Jane McMeel and Caitlin Reid, with AFLW midfielder Abbey McDonald withdrawn and Cheryl de Groot and Jo Sunderland injured.
The Bulldogs regain Imogen Milford (ankle) and recall Ellie Bishop and ex-Cat Chloe Leonard as they seek six wins in a row.
Carlton has a debutant in Fitzroy and Calder Cannons ruck Ellie Sbeghen for its must-win match against Casey Demons at IKON Park with Octavia Di Donato back from suspension and Danika Di Santo also recalled but Mel Staunton to miss at least a week with a groin injury.
The Demons made just one change, with Jo Lin copping a minor leg issue and being replaced by Indi Makai on return from a hand problem.
All matches in the 2024 rebel VFLW season will be live streamed free via the AFL website, AFL Live Official App and VFL App.
