FORMER Melbourne big man Jeff White's bid to continue his 268-game AFL career at a new club appears unlikely to bear fruit.

White was discarded by the Demons at the end of the season and though he still maintains he has plenty to offer at the level, the 31-year-old admits the signs don't look good.

"I thought I would've heard something by now, so there's a bit of doubt, obviously. I just think nothing's going to happen," White told Thursday's Herald Sun.

"I'm fit and fine. No surgery, nothing. I didn't need to get anything done at the end of the season, [but] I haven't heard a thing, so that's why it creates doubt that maybe no-one wants me.

"I understand that clubs would want to attract younger players. And that's exactly what happened when I first came back [from Fremantle in 1997] to Melbourne.

"But in saying that, if a club did have some interest, I think they would have said something by now. Most teams start pre-season next month. So, I don't think it's going to happen. That's why I'm keeping an open mind and I'm still going to play footy next year and enjoy myself."

The 195cm ruckman, Fremantle's No. 1 draft pick in the 1994 draft, is currently training by himself on the Gold Coast where he bought a house with his wife and has expressed his interest in speaking to new Brisbane Lions coach Michael Voss.

"If he (Voss) gave me a call, I'd love to have a chat with him," he said.

"They're in a position where they've got (Jamie) Charman and (Matthew) Leuenberger. I would be open to all suggestions. I just want to stay involved in footy.

"I haven't put a price tag on my head. I understand where I'm at. I just want to be given the opportunity to speak to a club if they want my services, to let them know that I'm keen to play."

White won the Demons' best and fairest award in his All-Australian year of 2004.
