The AFL has today announced a squad of 46 players who will take part in the 2024 Marsh AFL National Futures Boys program later this month.
The squad comprises a selection of the most promising under-17 boys footballers from across Australia, with every state and territory represented.
All players selected in the 2024 Marsh AFL National Futures Boys program are born in 2007 and will be eligible to be drafted following the 2025 season.
The squad features 19 players who were named in the 2023 Marsh AFL National Development Championships U16 All Australian team.
That includes Queensland star Zeke Uwland, who was also selected in this year’s Marsh AFL National Championships U18 Boys All Australian team after starring as a bottom-age player for the Allies.
Dyson Sharp (SA) and Beau Addinsall (QLD) have also been selected after winning the Pool A and Pool B best and fairest awards respectively at last year’s under-16 Championships.
The Marsh AFL National Futures Boys program provides an opportunity for a host of the most talented young footballers in the country to come together in a high-performance environment as they prepare to enter their Draft year.
Players were nominated by state talent programs, national selectors and AFL club recruiters.
Many of the program’s members will go on to be part of the 2025 Marsh AFL National Academy Boys program.
The 2024 Marsh AFL National Futures Boys squad will come together in Melbourne for a three-day camp during AFL Grand Final week.
The highlight of the program will be the annual Marsh AFL National Futures Boys match, which will again be played as a curtain-raiser to the 2024 Toyota AFL Grand Final at the MCG on Saturday, September 28.
The AFL has confirmed the two teams to compete in the 2024 Marsh AFL National Futures Match will be named after retiring AFL stars Dyson Heppell and Rory Sloane.
Heppell played 253 AFL games for Essendon and captained the Bombers for six seasons from 2017 to 2022. He was awarded the AFL’s Rising Star award in 2011 and was selected in the 2014 All Australian team in a season he also won Essendon’s best and fairest, the Crichton Medal.
Sloane played 255 games for the Adelaide Crows over 16 seasons. A two-time club best and fairest winner, Sloane captained the Crows from 2019 to 2022 and was named vice-captain of the All Australian team in 2016.
More information on the 2024 Marsh AFL National Futures Boys match, including final teams, will be announced shortly.
The 2024 Marsh AFL National Futures Girls match was played as a curtain-raiser to the NAB AFLW Week 1 match between the Geelong Cats and Melbourne at GMHBA Stadium last month.
