NORTH Melbourne midfielder Daniel Wells has continued his superb form, moving into outright second on the AFLCA Champion Player of the Year leaderboard.

Wells had been unsighted in the top 10 players for the award but back-to-back perfect games in rounds 12 and 13 saw him charge up the leaderboard.

On Sunday against Port Adelaide he followed up with a 27 possession display, which earned him seven votes from the coaches, and was only outshone by young teammate Jack Ziebell who had a career-high 27 touches, 13 of those contested.

Wells now sits on 53 votes for the season, nine behind leader Marc Murphy who failed to poll a vote in Carlton's loss to West Coast.

Western Bulldogs skipper Matthew Boyd was brilliant with 39 disposals and nine clearances in his side's win over Gold Coast and was awarded nine votes by coaches Rodney Eade and Guy McKenna.

Boyd has now moved into third place on the leaderboard, while Carlton captain Chris Judd continues to fall further out of contention.

Judd hasn't registered a vote since he was the round 10 leader, when he was awarded nine votes against Melbourne.

The reigning Brownlow medallist sits in equal sixth position on 46 votes with Sydney Swan Ryan O'Keefe and is in danger of dropping out of the top 10.

There were six players in round 14 who scored the maximum 10 votes.

Melbourne midfielder Brent Moloney welcomed the return of ruckman Mark Jamar, collecting 30 touches and 10 clearances.

The pair are the number one ruck/rover combination in the competition and Moloney's effort earned him a perfect score.

Rebounding Hawthorn defender Grant Birchall has returned to his premiership winning form this season and was deservedly rewarded with 10 votes for his 33-disposal performance against Essendon.

Collingwood forward Travis Cloke, Fremantle captain Matthew Pavlich, Geelong defender Corey Enright and revitalised Eagle Quinten Lynch also scored 10 votes.
