The rebel VFL teams for Round 3.
HISTORY will be made at Windy Hill on Saturday when star North Melbourne-Werribee recruit Gen Lawson-Tavan becomes just the second player to reach 100 rebel VFLW matches in the Kangaroos’ clash with Essendon.
Lawson-Tavan, 29, is a dual premiership player with Darebin, playing in the 2014 VWFL and 2016 VFLW flags, putting together 76 VFLW matches for the Falcons until she was picked up by Sydney for its debut AFLW season.
She played seven AFLW games for the Swans as an injury replacement player before being released and returning to Victoria where Carlton grabbed her for the same role and she added 18 more AFLW matches for the Blues, along with 21 VFLW appearances.
The rock-solid defender joined the Kangaroos this season and has played an important role in their 2-0 start to the season, also lining up in the VFLW’s inaugural State match win over the SANFLW last month.
She will join new teammate Mia-Rae Clifford as the only players to reach 100 VFLW games in the ninth season of the competition.
And if Brett Gourley gets the chance, he should give her a chance to sneak into attack – she is still to kick a goal at VFLW or AFLW level!
North Melbourne-Werribee has named recruit Sarah Ingram to play her first game for the club alongside Charlotte Blair, with Caitlin Fletcher away and premiership player Matilda Zander omitted.
Essendon has rested all the AFLW players that helped it thrash Collingwood last week, with Corowa-Rutherglen teenager Madison Ibrahim to make her VFLW debut among 10 changes.
Collingwood has been chosen by its opposition to run out some AFLW talent for the second week in a row as Western Bulldogs take a beefed-up team to Victoria Park on Saturday.
The Bulldogs will have No.8 draft pick Emma McDonald, a product of the Ashburton footy factory, on debut, while livewire forward Elaine Grigg and veteran tall Lou Stephenson will also play their first games in red, white and blue at the level.
Brit Gutknecht has also been called in alongside VFLW star Jaimi Tabb, although they have lost star ruck Keeley Hardingham to injury.
The Magpies will be without Jaide Anthony (concussion) and Bella Clarke (broken nose) for up to three weeks but will regain Round 1 best afield Tahlia Sanger and have given a VFLW debut to Zoe McCurdy and club debuts to Millie Lang and Lilly Leighton.
Georgia Alomes will play her first game for Port Melbourne since the 2023 premiership when the Borough takes on Darebin at Genis Steel Oval on Saturday. Alomes spent last season plying her trade at Melbourne University, but is back with Meg Buchanan.
The Falcons will have teenager Zoe Clubb making her debut and co-captain Steph Simpson in for her first game of the year after a hamstring injury, plus former North Melbourne captain Sarah King and youngster Catia Cococcia.
Sandringham’s AFLW players are also in cotton wool for its trip to Carlton, Tayla Kearns and Sophie Locke out for extended periods with injury and Lauren Brazzale also among the outs.
However, the Zebras have been able to recall stars Deanna Jolliffe, Ali Hynes and Zoe Barbakos, while former Collingwood AFLW player Jordan Membrey will play her first game for the club.
The Blues will be without Hannah Bowey for two weeks with a calf injury and fellow waylaid player Jorja Jackson, with Box Hill Hawks signing Teagan Bradley and Keilor teen Matilda Connell to wear the monogram for the first time alongside Hannah Scott.
Casey Demons have named four debutants for its clash with Box Hill Hawks at Box Hill City Oval.
South Belgrave pair Zahri Burn and Indi Markby, Old Brighton’s Tiger Doultree and Old Scotch’s Anna Vrsecky will all become VFLW players as the Demons rest their AFLW talent and lose Lauren Jatczak to concussion.
The Hawks also have a first-gamer, with Markby’s Eastern Ranges teammate Angie Torcasio to wear the brown and gold stripes for the first time.
Williamstown made four changes for its night game against Geelong at DSV Stadium, with Ballarat teenager Claire Lightfoot to debut alongside Molly Simpson, Amelie Marino and Robyn Randell, while the Cats have called on Brooke Bailey and Olivia Stewart to replace injured volleyball convert Caitie Tipping and the absent Sophie Mahar.
BROADCAST AND STREAMING: All matches in the 2025 rebel VFLW season will be live streamed free via the AFL website, AFL Live Official App and VFL App.
