GOLD Coast has lost seven straight matches, but can now see some light at the end of the tunnel.

On Saturday the Suns host North Melbourne and the following week play St Kilda in Townsville before having a bye.

When you're sitting in 17th, no match is easy, but in the Kangaroos and Saints, the Suns face teams a bit closer to them on the ladder.

So rather than lamenting what went wrong – mainly in the final quarter – in Saturday's 83-point loss to Greater Western Sydney, Gold Coast has used this week to take a different approach.

"We looked at more of the positive side of it this week because we've got a massive opportunity the next couple of weeks leading into the bye," rebounding defender Lachie Weller told AFL.com.au.

"We looked at what we do when we play good footy.

"We stuck with GWS for nearly three quarters. We looked at how well we played when we bring our contest and put heat on the ball.

"We've put a positive spin on it this week."

After winning three straight matches by less than a goal from rounds two to four, the Suns have crashed back to earth.

In the past seven matches they've played six teams in the top eight and suffered a heartbreaking on-the-siren loss to Melbourne.

"Every single weekend is a big game for us," Weller said

"We've got a really good opportunity against North Melbourne and St Kilda to get our tails up going into the bye and go into the back end of the season strongly."

Gold Coast has some insight into the Kangaroos' style of play and personnel with a couple of interesting coaching relationships.

Stuart Dew is familiar with North's interim coach Rhyce Shaw after the pair spent five years together at Sydney, while Suns defensive coach Josh Drummond will have his first game against the club he coached at for six years.
