PORT Adelaide has recalled midfielder Karl Amon ahead of former Geelong speedster Steven Motlop for Friday night's encounter with Collingwood at Marvel Stadium.

It's Amon's first senior game since suffering a knee injury in the Power's round two win against Carlton, but he has played strongly the past two weeks in the SANFL.

"His form's been really strong and we missed him when he got hurt," Power coach Ken Hinkley said.

"We've got a lot of boys in the SANFL playing pretty strong footy, he's one of the absolute leading contenders and now he gets back into the side.

"He's probably playing the most consistent footy he's played."

The 23-year-old comes into the side for star forward Robbie Gray, who is sidelined for a month with a broken hand.

Motlop will travel to Melbourne with the team on Thursday as the emergency.

The 160-game veteran was dropped after round four and will continue to press his claims at the lower level.

"His way back into the side is to be consistent and to be really strong with his form, which Steve has done really well so far," Hinkley said.

"We have a team that is in pretty good form, so it's sometimes harder to get in.

"His leadership and drive when he's played in the (SANFL) has been unbelievably good and he'll get back in our side pretty soon."

It's the only change to the Power side that beat North Melbourne by 16 points last Friday night.

The Power (4-2) are fast becoming Friday night specialists after a huge upset over reigning premiers West Coast in Perth on Anzac Day, followed by a solid performance against the Kangaroos.

But taking on last year's grand finalists – who have also started 4-2 and sit third on the ladder – is another challenge entirely.

"It's absolutely exciting because we know what we're coming up against," Hinkley said.

"Friday night football for our football club is really important.

It'd be nice to go three from three from Fridays.

Controlling Magpies X-factor Jordan De Goey will be difficult, especially with co-captain Tom Jonas, who would have been the match up, sidelined with a calf strain.

"Tommy is our go-to guy on those types of players, so it's a good opportunity for our younger defenders to take on one of the greats," Hinkley said.

"If he's in the last line, it's probably (Tom) Clurey, it's probably (Dougal) Howard.

"If he's up the field a little bit more, it's probably (Darcy) Byrne-Jones, it's probably (Dan) Houston, and if he's right up the field, it's probably (Riley) Bonner and it's probably (Ryan) Burton, and we have (Jarrod) Lienert as well, so it just depends on how we structure up."

Hinkley said the plan was for Jonas to return for next weekend's Showdown, but admitted he wasn't sure.

"We won't take a risk with Tommy, we'd be very careful with him, but hopefully he's on track to play next weekend," Hinkley said.
