FREMANTLE has lost in-form key defender Joel Hamling for Sunday's 48th Western Derby, with veteran Michael Johnson coming into the line-up.

Johnson was pulled from Peel's win over East Perth on Saturday and replaced ruckman Scott Jones on the emergency list, indicating the 240-gamer was set for a late call-up.

The 33-year-old will make his 10th appearance for the season after being 'managed' and missing Freo's belting against Hawthorn last round.

Hamling's unspecified injury means the Dockers have now made six changes after their 59-point loss to the Hawks.

It is only the second game he has missed after crossing to Freo at the end of 2016. He was left out in round one this season after being considered underdone.

West Coast will go in unchanged from the 22 named on Friday, with Luke Shuey, Liam Ryan and Lewis Jetta confirmed starters.

The Eagles are searching for their seventh-straight derby victory and can cement themselves two wins inside the top-two with a win.

West Coast leads the overall derby count 27-20.
