ADELAIDE veteran Richard Douglas will miss Thursday night's clash with Geelong at Adelaide Oval, but key defender Daniel Talia is expected to play.

Goalsneak Eddie Betts (hamstring) and big-bodied midfielder Cam Ellis-Yolmen (quad) are also chances to return to face the Cats.

Douglas will be sidelined for two to three weeks after injuring his ankle in last Friday night's 47-point loss to Richmond.

"Unfortunately for Dougie, he has a really minor syndesmosis injury," Crows general manager of high performance Matt Hass said.

"He will be out for this weekend, but depending on how he progresses with his rehab he looks to be about 2-3 weeks."

Douglas, 31, has been a solid contributor for the Crows this season, playing through the midfield and across half-forward, averaging 18.6 disposals per game to go with 13 goals.

Betts has missed the past two games with a hamstring injury sustained in the round 13 loss to Hawthorn.

"Eddie has done really well in his rehab, he will train with the main group on Tuesday and should he get through that, he will be available," Hass said.

Talia sprained his foot early in the game, but got it strapped and returned in the second quarter.

"(Talia) left the ground during the first quarter with a mid-foot strain," Hass said.

"The physios were able treat it and get him back out there and pleasingly he finished the match, which is a really good sign.

"It depends on how he progresses this week through main training and captain's run, but we are hopeful he will get through and play."

Talia strained his foot in the pre-season, but the 26-year-old hasn't missed a premiership game this year.

He's been in outstanding form and shut down Tigers spearhead Jack Riewoldt before going off the ground for treatment for his foot.

Sam Gibson could be recalled to the side in place of Douglas after 29 disposals in the SANFL last Saturday in his first game back from a hamstring injury.

Patrick Wilson (31 disposals) will also be considered, while winger Rory Atkins had 17 disposals and kicked two goals in his second game in the state league.

Atkins was dropped after the Crows' round 13 loss to Hawthorn – the first time he had been axed since coach Don Pyke took over the team in 2016.

Players had the day off on Monday, and will train at Adelaide Oval on Tuesday.
