PORT Adelaide defender Jack Hombsch is poised for yet another recall after Tom Jonas injured his knee against St Kilda on Saturday.

There'll be a chance for former Sun Trent McKenzie, Matthew Broadbent, who's only recently back from a serious ankle injury, and Jarrod Lienert to press their claim when Port Adelaide's SANFL takes to the field on Sunday afternoon.

However, Hombsch appears in the box seat to play against Fremantle next weekend.

It's been an up and down season for the 25-year-old, who couldn't break into the team until round five and then was dropped in round 12.

He then came in as a replacement for a hamstrung Jonas for the matches against Dogs and the Blues in rounds 13 and 15.

Fellow defender Dan Houston thinks Hombsch is next in line if Jonas misses the clash against Fremantle.

"Homma is one of our best defenders and most reliable defenders," Houston said.

"I think he's probably struggling a bit, we've played some good footy in defence with Dougal (Howard), Jonah (Tom Jonas) and Tom Clurey."

"I think it's just a matter of making the most of his opportunity when he comes in."

Despite a couple of injury setbacks, the Power has the fourth best defence in the competition, conceding 73 points a game.

Against St Kilda they only gave up 50 points, which included two goals gifted by risky kicks in defence.

Houston was one of the offenders but he's not worried about his second-quarter mistake.

"I think we want to take the game on, we want to take the game through the corridor. We take those risks and sometimes it doesn't come off," he said.

"The challenge is to keep playing like that, don't go into your shell and don't play a boring style of footy.

"I think we've been playing some unconditional footy. We are all playing our roles and we are sticking to the little things that make us a good team."
