Who's hanging up the boots? Keep track of 2017's retirements and delistings

FREMANTLE back-up ruckmen Zac Clarke and Jonathon Griffin are among five Dockers who have been delisted as the rebuilding club prepares for another active NAB AFL Trade Period.

Full-back Sam Collins, plus rookies Josh Deluca and Matthew Uebergang, also haven't been offered new contracts.

The five players follow retiring defenders Zac Dawson and Garrick Ibbotson out the door.

But there is better news for Tommy Sheridan and tenacious forward Brady Grey, who have both signed one-year contract extensions.

Clarke, 27, has been delisted after failing to add to his 101 games this year due to a left knee problem which required three bouts of surgery.

The 203cm big man, who joined Fremantle via pick 37 in the 2008 NAB AFL Draft, revealed the news on his Instagram page on Friday that he had been moved on.

"Thanks to friends and family for the support over the journey and especially all my team mates who I'll miss the most! One door closes, another one opens and I'm excited for what's next #plentyleft," Clarke posted on his page.

Clarke is keen to play on and could be of interest to clubs in the delisted free agency period.

Griffin made seven AFL appearances this season but was overtaken in the ruck pecking order by Aaron Sandilands' impressive understudy Sean Darcy.

Griffin, 31, played 56 of his 97 career games in purple after crossing from Adelaide at the end of 2010.

Mature-age recruit Collins (14 AFL games) and Deluca (four) played in Peel Thunder's back-to-back WAFL premierships over the past two seasons, but couldn't crack regular senior football under Ross Lyon.

Uebergang has been let go after two years on the rookie list, most of that time spent battling a complicated hamstring issue.

The Dockers could also lose Hayden Crozier this off-season, with the Western Bulldogs eyeing off the high-flying utility, while out-of-contract tall forward Matt Taberner is yet to commit.

But they are hoping to add Gold Coast small forward Brandon Matera and Giants superboot Nathan Wilson during the upcoming trade period.

Meanwhile, Sheridan will face a crucial campaign in 2018 after receiving a one-year deal.

The 23-year-old, who battled a hamstring late in the season, managed nine senior games and was in and out of the line-up this year.

"I'll make sure I come back in good nick and train hard and continue to build the body," Sheridan said.

"For me, my year was a bit inconsistent with injuries but I’ll be training as hard as I can over the pre-season to try and earn a round one spot."

Grey, 22, played 14 senior games in 2017, benefiting from the club's decision to promote its younger players.

Grey, who successfully recovered from surgery on his right shoulder ahead of the 2016 season, hopes he can bounce back in a similar way after undergoing surgery on his left shoulder this off-season.

"It was really nice to play 14 games this season. Obviously I'd like to build on that next season and have an injury free run," Grey said.

"I'm really happy to have played those 14 games and play in eight wins - it was great to be a part of a winning side and, hopefully, we can continue that next season."
