AFL Cape York (AFLCY), are recruiting for two, separate, full-time Development Coordinator positions. This is your opportunity to contribute to our mission of strengthening resilience, providing positive life experience and opportunities to Indigenous Australians through culturally appropriate education, sporting and wellbeing pathways. 

 

Development Coordinator 

The Development Coordinator is responsible for: 

  • Implementing participation strategies across Far North Queensland remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island regions through AFL Auskick, school and school holiday programs as well as community football/competitions and coach education activities. 
  • Assist with regional mapping and setting targets for AFL Auskick as well as conducting all Auskick Centres in the region. 
  • Deliver promotional activities and clinics in all primary and secondary schools in the designated region as well as school holiday programs. 
  • Liaise with communities and schools and assist with administration, organisation and logistics of all promotional activities, travel and accommodation. 
  • Assist to identify opportunities for growing AFL participation and opportunities within the region. 
  • Foster links between communities, AFL Cape York and AFL Queensland. 
  • Travel to remote communities within Far North Queensland, Cape York and Torres Strait Islands. 
  • Ability to lead by example and project positive lifestyle messages to children participating in AFL programs.

Position 2 - Girls Development Coordinator 

In addition to the above Development Coordinator duties, the Girls Development Coordinator plays a pivotal role in strengthening female participation in AFL, furthering opportunities for young girls and women in remote communities and empowering them to follow their passions both on and off the field. 

To perform the Girls Development Coordinator role, it is essential that the person is an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991. 

CORE COMPETENCIES

Experience, Skills & Knowledge 

  • Exceptional time management and organisational skills. 
  • Sound knowledge of AFL. 
  • Good level of written and oral communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with young people and staff. 
  • Cultural competence; proven skills, knowledge and behaviours that are required to plan, support, improve and deliver programs in a culturally respectful and appropriate manner. 
  • Ability to work independently, use initiative and be self-motivated. 
  • Ability to work within a team environment and provide positive support within the organisation. 
  • Proven ability to use technology including Microsoft Office programs and organisational databases. 
  • Ability to interact positively and professionally with children/youth whilst maintaining professional boundaries. 
  • Be physically fit with unrestricted ability to lift, bend, stretch & twist. Physical activities include participating in AFL games, running, walking, bending, kicking, jumping, reaching, stretching, balancing, lifting and being exposed to hot and humid environments 

Qualifications 

  • Current Qld Open “MR” class manual Drivers Licence 
  • First Aid Qualification 
  • Completion of 4wd course (or ability to undertake) 
  • National Police Clearance 
  • Positive Working with Children Blue Card (or eligible to apply for)
