Following the successful return of AAMI AFL Origin earlier this year, the AFL has confirmed today that elite level state-based rivalry will continue for at least the next three years.
In February 2027, Western Australia will host South Australia at Optus Stadium, almost 30 years since the states last battled in elite level State of Origin football.
South Australia and Adelaide Oval will then play host to the 2028 AAMI AFL Origin, with South Australia taking on Victoria as the two proud footballing states go head-to-head for the first time since 1999.
In 2029, Western Australia will again play host, with the Sandgropers looking for redemption when they face off against Victoria, having played each other earlier this year where the Big V defeated WA by 24 points.
AFL CEO Andrew Dillon said the AFL is thrilled to secure AAMI AFL Origin into the future.
"State football is one of the great traditions of our game, and we are pleased to see it continue in 2027 and beyond after the huge success of its return earlier this year which saw more than 58,000 people fill Optus Stadium in Perth," said Mr Dillon.
"Origin inspires passion, State pride and draws upon decades of rivalries that are central to the history of our game and our greatest players.
"Locking in the structure for the next three years provides fans, clubs, players and stakeholders certainty on Origin, allowing them to embrace the state rivalry and celebrate our great game.
"I would like to thank Premier Roger Cook and the Western Australian Government for their support in delivering this exciting event for our code in 2027 and 2029, and to Premier Peter Malinauskas and the South Australian Government for their ongoing partnership and bringing elite-level state footy back to Adelaide in 2028."

"Western Australia cannot wait to host South Australia next year at Optus Stadium, in what will be the 50th anniversary of the first Origin match played in the State."
South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas said:
"The return of Origin presents another significant opportunity to put our state in the national spotlight, and welcome thousands of thousands of people into South Australia to enjoy the best of what we have to oNer.
"Our hotels, restaurants bars and pubs will benefit from Victorians flooding into SA to witness Origin on the most spectacular of stages at the Adelaide Oval."
Western Australia and South Australia have a fierce rivalry, with the two states first facing oN in 1980, when WA were victorious over SA 156-69. The state sides have met nine times under State of Origin rules with South Australia leading the head-to-heads five wins to four, including a 143-107 victory the last time the states met in 1998.
The passion and rivalry between two proud football states will be reignited in February with bragging rights back on the line, as South Australia boasts some of the competitions best players to select from including Jordan Dawson, Lachie Neale, Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera, Connor Rozee and Brodie Grundy.
The 2027 AAMI AFL match will mark 50 years since the first AFL State of Origin match, which was played at Subiaco Oval between Western Australia and Victoria in 1977.
In 2028, South Australia and Victoria will have a score to settle with SA looking to peg one back against Victoria who lead the head-to-head, 10 wins to 7 wins, having met 17 times from 1979 – 1999 under Origin rules, including the most recent match up where Victoria was successful 121-67.
The AFL also have confirmed AAMI will continue as naming rights partner of AFL Origin.

 The AAMI AFL Origin games will be broadcast on Seven Network and Foxtel, as well as 7plus, Kayo and WatchAFL streaming platforms, spotlighting Perth and Adelaide, and their world-class sporting facilities to the rest of the nation and around the world.
