FOOTBALL fans will be cheering loudly for high-scoring play in the final round of the season, with Sherrin giving away a football after every goal kicked in round 23.

Teams have kicked an average of 13 goals this season across the AFL, with 201 goals kicked in total in round 22, giving fans who attend the football this weekend plenty of opportunities to win a Sherrin.

In an initiative introduced to thank fans, children under the age of 15 will also be admitted free for all games in Victoria.

It follows the success of the 'Sunday Funday' initiative, with kids admitted free to Sunday games in Victoria, South Australia, New South Wales and Queensland this season.

General manager of clubs and AFL operations Travis Auld said the AFL was thrilled to finish the home and away season by thanking the fans.

"One of our major objectives over the past two years has been to improve the accessibility and affordability of attending matches," Auld said.

"The 'Sunday Funday' initiative has seen fans vote with their feet as attendance by kids has grown by 31 per cent since its inception in 2015 in Melbourne.

"Overall attendances were strong in 2015 and the addition of these initiatives helped to make attending games attractive to all fans, especially families.

"We want to thank our partners, especially Sherrin, who are helping us surprise fans who attend all round 23 matches."
