GWS COACH Adam Kingsley says he is "hopeful" inaugural Giants Toby Greene and Stephen Coniglio will remain, while conceding Coleman medallist Jesse Hogan is likely to join Jake Stringer in exiting the club.

The Giants' season came to an end in a 24.13 (157) to 15.11 (101) defeat to Adelaide, with the club set to wait on the future of several key players, including captain and club legend Greene, who is considering a move under free agency to a Victorian club.

“In due course, he’ll make the decision. Now the season has finished, he’ll assess with his family is my information. They’ll make a decision and hopefully that’s sooner rather than later, but we’ll give him as much time as he needs, Kingsley said.

“Clearly he's been our best player. He’s been huge for us and continues to be. I would argue this year, in a really challenging year for us, he’s led as good or probably better than, he ever has. I think he’s been outstanding for us this year on the field and particularly off the field.”

Greene kicked 34 goals in 21 games in his 15th season with the Giants and is the club's all-time leading goal-kicker.

“He’ll be sorely missed if he decides to leave. He’ll bring a lot of smiles to faces if he decides to stay, and that’s what we’re hopeful of," Kingsley said.

Another GWS club legend whose fate remains uncertain is former captain Stephen Coniglio.

“We’re hopeful. He’s a bit in Toby’s boat at the moment. He’s yet to make a decision. We’re working through that with his management, and hopefully he’ll make a decision sooner rather than later," Kingsely said. while admitting that Jake Stringer and Jesse Hogan are more likely to explore options.

Stringer, who kicked six goals in the loss to Adelaide, confirmed he would be returning to Victoria in 2027 for family reasons.

“I think he’s been brilliant for us. Tonight kind of capped it all, what he’s been for us," Kingsley said.

"In the locker room he’s great company, he’s a great teammate. It’s sad to see him go, but that’s footy."

When it came to Hogan's future, Kingsley said that while he was more likely to stay than go, the Giants were optimistic about their young crop of forward prospects.

“I’d say he’s more likely to leave than stay. That’s the nature of footy during August and September; that’s what happens at clubs.

“I think we’ve seen a young pairing up front in Aaron Cadman and Max Gruzewski really grow. We’ve missed Jake Riccardi heavily for a large chunk of the season, he would have been that more experienced leader ahead of the ball that we needed as well as Jesse."

Adelaide's win, combined with Melbourne's loss to the Western Bulldogs earlier on Saturday, ensures the Crows will finish in the top six and host an elimination final.

Crows coach Matthew Nicks said the week's rest would be a boost for retiring veteran Taylor Walker, who starred with six goals on Saturday night.

"Things happen for a reason. Some results went our way, we performed the way we knew we could and so we get the chance to be fresh, 14 days or thereabouts, and we're going to have to perform again, and that'll be a bonus for big 'Texan' (Walker)," Nicks said.

"There's no doubt when he's able to be fresh - we saw it against Collingwood, we saw it again tonight... when we gave him an opportunity in that first quarter, he's not a bad player.

Nicks said the big win over the Giants, particularly the nine-goal opening quarter that set up the victory, showcased his side's scoring power ahead of the finals.

"I really like what I'm seeing at the moment with our game. There's still a way to go but we know things are so close to clicking and you saw it for periods throughout tonight," he said.

"You come away as a coach really optimistic. We've been talking in that sort of tone now for a long period of time. We know how to win. That's what the game's about.

"Sometimes that might be ugly but tonight, there were some real polish in that - what did we score, 150-odd - so it's a great result."

Zac Taylor will have scans on a hamstring injury that ended his night early. Nicks said Callum Ah Chee was a good chance to return for the Crows' first final, while James Peatling "is a few more weeks than that".
