The 22-year-old only joined the Blues in the AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft this year, making his AFL debut in round 18 against Hawthorn.

After requesting a trade to the Pies - the club he barracked for growing up - Riley got his move on Tuesday, with Collingwood sending Carlton a 2028 third-round pick to land him.

Riley had a two-year offer from the Blues but a longer deal from the Pies.

Standing at 209cm, Riley played 11 VFL games for Carlton this season, averaging 14.9 disposals, 5.3 clearances and 31.5 hitouts per game.

Magpies list boss Justin Leppitsch said Riley would be a welcome addition to the club's ruck stocks.

"He's a talented young player who has shown a lot of growth in his football over recent seasons," Leppitsch said.

"Flynn is a player we've tracked closely and one we see significant upside in. He possesses strong football instincts, works hard around the contest and has shown a willingness to continually improve his game.

"Flynn and his family are passionate Pies supporters also and he is looking forward to playing for the jumper."
