INAUGURAL Tasmania captain Robbie Fox has been axed by the Devils, with the club citing player behaviour as part of its decision.

Fox served as the Devils' captain this year as they played in the VFL ahead of their AFL arrival in 2028.

But the former Sydney defender will depart Tasmania, it was confirmed on Tuesday.

"This decision follows consideration of a range of factors including the future direction of our football program as we continue to prioritise the development of emerging talent," the Devils said.

"The club's expectations regarding player behaviour and adherence to our standards were also considered as part of this decision."

Fox, who played 105 AFL matches for the Swans, featured in 13 VFL games for the Devils this year as they bowed out in the semi-finals.

Tasmania also announced on Tuesday it had signed former Geelong midfielder George Stevens.

The joint winner of the J.J. Liston Trophy as the VFL's best and fairest this year, Stevens was delisted by the Cats at season's end after playing four AFL games across three years at the club.

The Devils will again play in the VFL in 2027 ahead of their AFL debut in 2028.

Last month, Tasmania announced the signings of its first AFL players on a historic night in Hobart.

The Devils unveiled seven under-17 players – East Perth tall Axel Walsh, Sandringham Dragons pair Angus Brown and Riley Stratford, Western Jets duo Jake Miller and Griffin Barker, Calder Cannons tall Nate Jenkins and Eastern Ranges midfielder Baxter Sruk – and a Tasmanian local product in Hugh McCallum, who is eligible for this year's draft.

The eight players will be a key part of Ken Hinkley's side in the club's first seasons in the AFL.
