WEST Coast could look for a trade to land another future first-round pick with an eye on the race for Sydney star Chad Warner.

Warner will be a free agent next year and the Eagles could be in the running to bring the 2024 All-Australian back home to Western Australia.

The Eagles' first two picks in this year's Telstra AFL Draft are No.3 and No.23, but they are set to receive another pick in the 20s as compensation once Essendon's expected bid on Dougie Cochrane pushes their first selection back.

AFL.com.au's Cal Twomey reported on Wednesday that the Eagles may look at bringing in a future first-round pick for one of those early second-round selections.

"West Coast is open to trading one of its picks in the 20s and it will have a second pick in the 20s once the compo bid spits that out," he said on Gettable.

"It will hold two selections in the early 20s once they get that compo selection. If they can turn one of them into a future first-round selection, I think they are very open to doing that and that's what clubs feel that they could do as well.

"There is a chance they just take two draft picks to the national pool and use the two, rather than the three, but I think that's one to keep an eye on."

With Tasmania already pre-selecting seven players eligible for the 2027 draft and holding a stack of early picks, some clubs have shown a willingness to trade out of that draft.

Twomey said the Eagles were a club to watch as they look to add to their hand ahead of Warner's free agency year.

"There's a possibility of clubs actually doing that on draft night two because of next year's pool as we've spoken so much about," he said.

"The reason for West Coast doing that to me is to get another chip into the Chad Warner race.

"That is one to keep an eye on. A big watch on what the Eagles do with their trades."
