GREATER Western Sydney star Tom Green has turned his back on rival interest to sign a two-year extension with the Giants.

As reported by AFL.com.au this week, the 25-year-old was set to stay at the Giants after the club offered him a two-year deal as Tasmania circled.

Due out of contract at the end of 2027, Green has signed the extension in a major boost for the Giants.

"Tom is a very important leader of our footy club and ensuring he's a Giant for the next three years is a fantastic result," GWS chief executive officer David Matthews said.

"Tom has been a Giant since joining our Academy in Canberra and since then he's personified exactly what it means to be a Giant, both on and off the field and to have him remain a Giant amid such rival interest is a profound moment for us as a club.

"Tom embodies everything that the Giants stand for and to have him recommit to the club is really significant as we enter what is a really exciting time for the club.

"While his football speaks for itself as one of the best players in the competition, he's also an incredible leader and a terrific person who set the standard for his teammates around him.

"Tom helps form a really exciting core of leaders at our club and his decision to stay at the Giants is going to be an immensely popular one across his teammates and the whole club.

"While it was unfortunate to see him miss the entire 2026 season, the way he's attacked his rehab is first class as you'd expect, and following this news we can't wait to see him back out there next year doing what he does best."

Green is expected to be a captain – either solo or as a co-captaincy – at the Giants next year after the departure of Toby Greene to Geelong through free agency earlier this month.

He cruelly missed the 2026 season after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in pre-season training in February.

The Giants' best and fairest in 2025, Green established himself as one of the competition's leading ball-winners in recent seasons.

Green averaged 29.7 disposals, 8.5 clearances and 3.6 tackles during the 2025 season.
