WEST Coast midfielder Luke Shuey has passed a fitness test on his ankle and is a definite starter in Saturday night's clash with Greater Western Sydney at Domain Stadium.

Shuey rolled his left ankle during last week's 53-point win over Brisbane.

Coach Adam Simpson said Shuey trained well on Friday and would be fit to take on the Giants.

"He got through," Simpson said.

"We had a few players who ticked some boxes today. But all of them are available."

Eagles forward Jack Darling has also trained with the main group for the first time this season after battling all summer with a stress fracture in his foot.

Simpson said he was hopeful that Darling could return within three weeks but the Eagles medical staff was imploring patience.

"He's now training with us, which is really good for him," Simpson said.

"But there are no guarantees on that. He's got to build his base up. We're not going to do it in quick fashion. We'll give it however long it takes before he's ready. But he's training with the group now, so I would have thought weeks, not months."

The Eagles have made three changes to the side that beat the Brisbane Lions last Sunday at the Gabba.

Matt Rosa (back), Jackson Nelson (rested) and Scott Lycett (omitted) have made way for Callum Sinclair, Patrick McGinnity and Jamie Bennell.

Rosa is only expected to miss one week with a back problem after pulling up poorly from the trip to Brisbane.

"We just didn't want to take a risk," Simpson said.

"He's one of those player who doesn't travel well.

"And the same with Jackson Nelson. He's a first-year player. Including pre-season (he's played) seven or eight games in a row and he's just starting to show signs. So we thought we would pre-empt an injury."

Simpson said Lycett was not playing well enough to retain his place in the side, but getting dropped was just part of his development.

The 22-year-old signed a four-year deal at the end of last year after turning down several suitors to remain at West Coast and lock down a permanent ruck role.

"He's just not playing well enough at the moment," Simpson said.

"We've been playing two ruckmen against teams that have been playing one, so we think we need to get an advantage there and we're not getting as much as we'd like.

"We've still got him in our plans and it's still part of his progression. But he needs to go back (to East Perth) and find some solid form. Cal Sinclair has been knocking on the door and provides some flexibility as well, so we've gone with Cal this week.

"These things happen to developing players. So it's not ideal for Scott, but in the big picture, in the long run, it will help him."
