WESTERN Bulldog defender Marcus Adams will miss this Sunday's game against Melbourne after surgery on a fractured finger.

Adams has been a revelation for the Dogs as a first-year backman after being picked at No.35 at the 2015 NAB AFL Draft.

"Marcus has sustained a minor fracture to one of his fingers which requires surgical intervention, so he's having that (on Monday)," Bulldogs football manager Graham Lowe told the club's website.

"Following that surgery, we'll provide an update in terms of timelines, but we certainly don't see him having a significant amount of time out of the game."

The 22-year-old played out the game in last week's 15-point win against Adelaide at Etihad Stadium.

Luke Beveridge's men have been hit by injuries in the back half this season, with Robert Murphy (knee), Jason Johannisen (hamstring) and Matthew Suckling (knee) all missing significant time.

Koby Stevens may return this week from an abdominal strain while a decision will be made later this week on key forward Tom Boyd's projected return from a shoulder injury.
