GREATER Western Sydney is taking every win that comes its way, regardless of how "ugly" it might be.

Coach Leon Cameron was happy the Giants managed to find a way to "win ugly", after they scraped over the line by eight points against a severely undermanned Gold Coast.

"From where we've come from, any win is fantastic," Cameron said.

"We've been building over the last four or so years, and we're not in that position to say, "Oh, we won't accept that win," because we will accept another win."

The Giants are now in line for their maiden finals appearance, after finishing 18th, 18th, 16th and 11th in their first four years in the competition.

They have also come to the end of a four-week travel period (Brisbane, Adelaide, Canberra and the Gold Coast), which Cameron said may have led to some tired players.

"The competition's hard, we understand we've been on the road for four weeks in a row, so that's a big task for us.

"There's no doubt that some of our boys, their energy levels are a little off."

Five talking points: Gold Coast v Greater Western Sydney

Cameron admits Gold Coast caught his Giants off guard, after they kicked the first three goals of the match within the opening four minutes.

"They probably surprised us a little bit – we prepared for them, but the players were probably just a little off early, but then I thought we got back on track in the last 15 minutes of the quarter," he said.

"Then it turned into one of those slogs, and you have to find a way to win pretty ugly, which we did, and they were really good."

Star forward Jeremy Cameron pulled up okay, despite receiving treatment for a hip complaint after a marking contest.

"I think he's okay, he's just had some big hits over the past few weeks.

"He's tough as nails, he just gets up and keeps on going, they play a good physical brand today, they tackled us really well, but I'm sure he's going to be okay.

"There's no early signs of any injuries, which is pleasing."

The Giants, having briefly led earlier in the match, only hit the front again in the final five minutes courtesy of Cameron's fourth goal.

Cameron said the difference between the two teams boiled down to clearances, which the Giants won 44-33.

"Probably in the end we just wore them down a little bit around the clearances, then obviously we got the ball forward in a better way.

"The bobbling ball, we got a couple – obviously Jeremy kicked a goal, and Toby [Greene] kicked another one – and that in the first three quarters wasn't working for us."

The Giants will now turn their attention to the Eagles at Spotless Stadium next Saturday.
