IRISHMAN Pearce Hanley has left the Brisbane Lions to join Gold Coast in a three-way trade also involving Port Adelaide.
The exchange, as predicted by AFL.com.au on Monday, sees the Suns receive Hanley from the Lions and draft pick No.67 from the Power, while the Lions receive No.22 from the Suns and the Power's first-round pick next year.
The Power receive No.19 from the Lions and No.30 from the Suns.
The deal sees Port Adelaide with two first-round selections after receiving the Lions' priority selection.
Hanley, 27, had been contracted until the end of 2019 at the Lions but had a poor season in a team that won only three games.
The County Mayo product played 129 matches for the Lions after making his debut in 2008.
Gold Coast football manager Marcus Ashcroft told the club website picking up ready-made players had been a priority.
"We are rapt an elite player of Pearce's calibre has expressed a desire to join the Gold Coast Suns," Ashcroft said.
"Our priority during the exchange period has been to add mature-aged talent that could make an immediate impact at our football club, and Pearce certainly fits that criteria.
"With our players just weeks away from transitioning into their new $22 million training and administration facility, we are entering an exciting period at the Gold Coast Suns."
Port Adelaide list manager Jason Cripps told portadelaidefc.com.au the Power wanted to improve their chances at the upcoming NAB AFL Draft.
"Our view is the upcoming draft is very strong and has good depth," Cripps said.
"As we've traded in players over the past five years to fill specific positional gaps, we believe this is the draft to add some talent for the future.
"We were able to achieve our objective of three picks inside 30."
Lions football manager David Noble says the club has a similar plan to the Power.
"As part of our trade and draft plan we have to take every opportunity to maximise our picks, bring new talent in and continue our strategy of building for the future," Noble told lions.com.au.
"Pearce has provided good service to the club over the past nine years, particularly coming to the Lions as an international rookie, but circumstances saw him want a fresh start.
"We think the deal is a really good result for us, and we wish Pearce all the best in the future."
