The verdict: we rate your club's draft haul

CARLTON has made a late change to its plans and will now use a selection at Monday's NAB AFL Pre-Season Draft, having earlier notified the League it would be sitting the draft out.

The AFL had earlier communicated notice to clubs and fans that there would not be a pre-season draft for the second straight year after clubs with available list spots told them they wouldn't be participating in it.

However, the Blues have had a change of heart and will now be the only club to use a pre-season draft choice.

The AFL also released the order of selections ahead of the rookie draft, which begins via teleconference from around the country at approximately 5pm AEDT on Monday.

There will be 42 picks available for the rookie draft among clubs, which will include Adelaide taking father-son prospect Jackson Edwards.

Cillian McDaid (Carlton), Luke Lavender (Essendon) and Tom Jeffries (North Melbourne) have already been pre-selected as category B rookies.

A total of seven players have also already been locked in as northern academy and Next Generation Academy players, with Gold Coast adding Jacob Dawson and Jacob Heron to its list, and the Giants signing Jack Buckley, the son of North chairman Ben, as a NSW zone pick.

Sydney has listed James Bell and Jake Brown as rookies via its academy, while Changkuoth Jiath (Hawthorn) and Derek Eggmolesse-Smith (Richmond) have joined their respective clubs via the multicultural and indigenous academy pathway.

Meanwhile, Melbourne won't be taking a player in the rookie draft having already filled its 2018 list.

The Demons picked four players – Charlie Spargo, Bayley Fritsch, Harrison Petty and Oskar Baker – in Friday's NAB AFL Draft, bringing the number of players on Melbourne's list to 44 and the maximum allotment.

The Demons have retained Lachlan Filipovic, Declan Keilty, Corey Maynard and Tim Smith as rookies for 2018.

Having signed a two-year deal in April, Joel Smith has been permanently upgraded to the senior list.
