ROSS Lyon doubts being ruled out of Brownlow Medal contention would be "a front-of-mind focus" for Fremantle superstar Nat Fyfe after his striking suspension was upheld at the AFL Tribunal.

Fyfe failed in his bid to overturn a one-week ban and the Brownlow favourite has blown his chance of becoming a two-time winner in 2018, with the Dockers highly unlikely to appeal the verdict.

Only 14 players in VFL/AFL history have won the award on multiple occasions, but Lyon insisted team success was more important for the Freo skipper.

"There's a best and fairest at stake, there's (AFLPA) MVP, Coaches Award – so a lot of individual awards – but Nathan, he's done all that, he's really focused on team success," the Dockers coach told Channel Seven.

"I wouldn't think it would be a front-of-mind focus for anyone within the team, or particularly Nathan.

"I think the club will consider it (an appeal). I think they need to find an error at law.

"They'll consider that overnight, but I'll leave that to the powers that be."

RACE FOR CHARLIE Who's leading the Brownlow Predictor?

The youthful Dockers face a huge challenge against Adelaide this Sunday without Fyfe, who has arguably been best afield in each of their four Optus Stadium victories.

However, veteran Aaron Sandilands' likely return from concussion could soften the blow, while Alex Pearce (ankle) is also set to be cleared after avoiding further damage to his previously broken leg.

Injury-plagued Harley Bennell is in the mix to play again, almost certainly at Peel, after experiencing calf tightness in his fourth consecutive game for the Thunder on Saturday.

"He tapped himself out. I spoke to him in the gym as I walked past, he thinks he's a legitimate test, or potentially one week, and as he said 'rather than miss 10'," Lyon said.

"It's disappointing, but fingers crossed all is OK."

Meanwhile, Lyon was quizzed about his behaviour in the coaches' box during the third quarter of Freo's 61-point belting from Collingwood on Sunday, and flatly denied he was flossing his teeth, following some sharp criticism.

ACCESS ALL AREAS Flossing Ross was 'disrespectful'

"I often doodle with a pen. I certainly wasn't flossing, in my view," he said.

"The footage that was shown I was talking to my coaches at the same time.

"A lot has been made of it. I understand the novelty value. For 272 games (before Sunday) and a number of finals I've never flossed.

"I wouldn't think it's something that you would see regularly, and in my opinion I certainly wasn't flossing."
