EASTON Wood's season is likely over after scans confirmed a high-grade hamstring injury, while midfielders Jack Macrae and Lukas Webb are expected to be sidelined for around a month.

The Western Bulldogs' captain doesn't require surgery with the club to manage the injury "conservatively" before reassessing in the coming weeks.

However, he is expected to be sidelined for between 10 to 12 weeks and based on that timeline, he'll return in round 23 in the best-case scenario.

Wood suffered the injury in the second quarter of the Dogs' 57-point loss to Port Adelaide on Thursday night.

Coach Luke Beveridge forecast a serious outcome of the skipper's scans in his post-match media conference, saying then "he'll be out for a long time".

Macrae tweaked his hamstring in the second quarter and didn't play again half-time. He's since been diagnosed with a low-grade strain that will keep him out for between 3-4 weeks.

In the nightmare game, the Dogs also lost Webb to a broken thumb.

He underwent surgery on Friday and will also miss 3-4 weeks.

The news is better for midfielder Marcus Bontempelli and forward Tom Boyd, with both a chance to face North Melbourne on Saturday night.

Bontempelli has been cleared of structural damage to the knee he hyperextended and faces a fitness test later in the week.

And Boyd has had the finger he dislocated operated on and is also a chance to face the Roos.

Toby McLean was able to finish the game despite an early shoulder injury but will need to prove his fitness at training this week to play.
