JOSH Kelly has suffered a meniscus tear in his right knee but Greater Western Sydney coach Leon Cameron is still hopeful his ace midfielder will be available next weekend.

Kelly suffered the injury in the opening quarter of Saturday's 49-point elimination final victory over Sydney and had to sit out the final three terms.

"It could be minor, (so) we're not ruling (him) out next week," Cameron said.

"Once we saw that he was struggling to run we thought we can't risk him, and we'll see how we go being one down.

"Obviously it was the right choice and it worked out (for us).

"He's an important part of our footy club as we all know, and it would be great to see him get up next week."

Kelly sustained the injury when kicking the ball just before the first change and was assisted from the field.

He did not return after half-time.
