Recently retired Lions ruckman Jamie Charman answered questions from fans during a 30-minute live online chat at 1:30pm (Queensland time) on Tuesday 22 November.

Please find below an edited transcript from what was said during the Q&A session.

Jamie Charman: Hey Charmo here... anyone out there!?

Porter: Hey Charmo, great to have you back. Will you be playing at all this year? In Reserves maybe?

Jamie Charman: Not going to play again. But the good thing is I can still compete against Leuey and Huddo...

Dom: Hey Charmo! Launching straight into it, everything seems to be going in the right direction at the club. The administration, playing list, coaching staff, and just general direction the club seems to be taking appears to be the best it’s been in a long, long time. Would you say this is accurate?

Jamie Charman: Yeah, some great people around the club. There doing a fantastic job at getting some legendary people like myself!!!!

Leanne: What is the feeling like around the club?

Jamie Charman: Boys are amazingly fit.... good buzz, tanned bodies and tight buns.

Ullandah: Are you coming to play for the Lions next year?

Jamie Charman: Officially retired.... tried to run lately but would seriously battle to play again at this level

Mezza: Wish you could still be out there on the field. You were always a huge presence. How would you rate the Lions ruck stock currently?

Jamie Charman: Leuey has grown in confidence.... He is a cracker. Hudson a great competitor... There will be one ruckman this year that will do the majority...

Dom: Was it your return match in the reserves at Metricon this year that you knew it was over? I was quite excited for you finally returning but it seemed not long after until you were retired

Jamie Charman: I finished at half time and knew. I was bloody sore only after a half...

Leanne: How many have fall from their bikes to get their tight buns?

Jamie Charman: Funny... few stacks on the bike. Rode this morning... I'm very wary...

James: Charmo, how has Bartlett been tracking along? Most of us are eager to watch him play seniors especially watching his draft highlights clip.

Jamie Charman: Bartlett is a cracker too... HARD at the ball. He’s started the off-season fit...

Sandy: Hey Charmo, will you be working with any of the academy kids? I believe Kerr mentioned a few are coming through the system...?

Jamie Charman: Few academy kids who are pretty special, start doing some stuff with the academy on Wednesday night...

Josh: Jared Polec really looks like he has put on the kilos. Who should we be looking for to make a big impact this year?

Jamie Charman: Jared Polec has put on plenty of muscle. I saw him yesterday for the first time. Unbelievable...

James: Jamie how do you rate our midfield coming through with Rockliff, Redden, Rich, Polec, Bartlett and Leuenberger in it?

Jamie Charman: Rockliff, Redden, Rich have been running unbelievably. Polec will be better after another pre-season. The boys are so focused!!!!!!!

Sandy: How many rucks do you reckon the club intends to pick up over this year's drafts?

Jamie Charman: Hopefully 2 rucks in the draft...

Leanne: What type of player do you think we will pick up on Thursday?

Jamie Charman: As for the draft on Thursday, I reckon some more small quicks and obviously some young ruckman/forwards...

John: Are you going to teach young ruckmen to be aggressive or work on technique primarily? You were aggressive, but gave away quite a few frees as a necessary evil. What's your stand?

Jamie Charman: I think as a ruckman you have to be competitive. I think that’s important...

Mezza: Would you agree that the current crop of 18 - 23 year olds at the Lions is one of the most underrated groups of players in the AFL at the moment? Can you see them finishing to the top eight this season?

Jamie Charman: Be great to see how they advance themselves next season... but I have to say the commitment early has seen some dramatic changes in individuals...

Dom: Any early prediction for where we could finish next year? Looking at the boys, would you say we are a likely chance to challenge for finals?

Jamie Charman: Finals is always your main goal....

Lozza: What’s it like having the smallest calves at the Brisbane Lions Charmo?

Jamie Charman: I'm feeling sexy about my calves...

Pat: Of our currently listed players, who else are you willing to test in the ruck? Retzlaff? McKeever?

Jamie Charman: Retz and Niall are two key position players. You'd want to keep them out of the ruck…at times to pinch hit...

Dylan: What’s the feeling of running out onto the ground in front of thousands?

Jamie Charman: Where ever you go running out in front of thousands it is the all-time greatest thing... you think everyone’s cheering for you.

James: I think we can challenge for the finals next year after how we played against Geelong and Collingwood late in the season. We also seemed to not be able to play 4 quarters is that something the guys have been working on?

Dom: How's Patty K going? Has he bulked up at all?

Jamie Charman: I just arrived yesterday. I haven't seen Patty yet.

Bernie Gabba: Well done on your appointment Charmo!

Sandy: Care to name names on who has taken great strides already this pre-season Jamie? Rich is one who is already looking primed to go.

Jamie Charman: Rich, Sheldon, Leuey

John: Everyone expects Bartlett, Polec, Rich and Zorko to come on well. Who do you think will be the player under 25 years of age to really push himself up a couple of levels next season?

Jamie Charman: I reckon Richy will be one to advance himself again this year...

Josh: Thanks Charmo for answering the questions. I’ve met you a few times and you’re always happy to chat with fans :) Thank you and good luck with your new role.

Jamie Charman: Love the supporters...you guys are bloody legends...

Leanne: Do you feel the team will miss a player like Staker next year?

Jamie Charman: Staker is a big loss...versatile.

Luke: What do you think of young Tomlinson at pick 8 or 12 in the Draft is he on the clubs radar.

Jamie Charman: Tomlinson a chance.......

Cam: Is Banfield going to get more of a midfield role or will he be staying up front as a small forward?

Jamie Charman: Great to see Toddy in the midfield... endurance is the key for him....

Lozza: Mate haven't caught up with you lads in a while, good to see you still have the best haircut at the Lions and still a funny bloke - how’s the lolly situation going?

Jamie Charman: Lollies are no longer an issue...

Angela: Congrats on the role Charmo, how does Polec and Karnezis look so far?

Jamie Charman: Polec massive... good massive though.

Leanne: Who will fill that spot that Staker left?

Jamie Charman: Staker out.....Jordan Lisle in.

Ryan: Charmo, are you getting down to QLD 18's training this year?

Jamie Charman: Ryan... under 18's will be a bit tougher now with this job...

Pat: I was at Princes Park when you did your ankle - it seemed such an innocuous incident. Was it preventable or just 'one of those things'?

Jamie Charman: 2 years ago since I did the ankle...

Back to work guys... Got a business to run!

Love you all and great chatting to you. It will be a great year I promise. Plenty of excitement to come!
